Machine Translation
Post-Editing Course

This course is intended for translators who want to better understand MT in general and post-editing in particular. It is, however, an introductory course, as post-editing is the subject of numerous in-depth studies, the results of which keep changing as the quality of MT evolves.

This is an old-style course: no videos, no images, just text: this will make it easier for those who need to translate it into their native language.

Introduction

Although machine translation has existed for nearly a century, it has just emerged as a technology with the potential to completely transform the translation industry in the last four to five years.

The advent of AI has sped up this process, and machines now produce a sizable portion of translations. It is reasonable to assume that within two or three years, MT will be able to satisfy the needs of 90% of the market.

The rise of machine translation (MT) has had—and will continue to have—the effect of decreasing demand for traditional translators while increasing demand for post-editors, whose job is to raise the quality of MT output to that of a human translation.

This course covers everything you need to know about post-editing. While many translators are already well-versed in the subject, this course is intended for individuals entering this field for the first time due to necessity or curiosity.

The course is structured into the 13 lessons listed below:

1- Introduction to Machine Translation
2- History and Evolution of Machine Translation
3- Core Machine Translation Approaches
4- Evaluation of Machine Translation
5- Data for Machine Translation
6- Advances in Neural Machine Translation
7- Post-Editing
8- Challenges in Machine Translation
9- Implementation of Machine Translation
10- MT and Emerging Technologies
11- Ethics and Implications of Machine Translation
12- MT in Specific Domains
13- Future of Machine Translation

You can start each lesson only after completing the previous one, but there is no time limit, and you can follow the course at your own pace

At the end of each lesson, you will find five multiple-answer quizzes.
You will earn one point for each correct answer, and a certificate will be awarded if you earn 40 points out of 65.
